  • Our Name

The name "Google" is a play on the word "googol," which is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.

    Our Technology

Google's search technology is based on the PageRank algorithm, developed by Larry Page. PageRank analyzes the link structure of the web to determine the relative importance of web pages. Combined with sophisticated text-matching techniques, this produces highly relevant search results.

    Our Philosophy

"Don't be evil." - Google's informal corporate motto guides our decisions. We believe that:

  • Focus on the user and all else will follow.
  • It's best to do one thing really, really well.
  • Fast is better than slow.
  • Democracy on the web works.
  • You can make money without doing evil.
  • There's always more information out there.
